Established in 2005
Since our founding, Swan Songs has served Austin and the surrounding communities and has grown from being managed by a five-member board and couple of volunteers to a 12-member board and a staff of five. We also engage consultants offering expertise in areas of development, grant writing, communications, IT, and accounting, have relationships with dozens of local hospices, and have access to a deep bench of musicians and volunteers to fulfill the mission.
Concert requests have increased from three in 2006 to 500+ in 2026. Thousands of stories and special moments witnessed inspire the staff, board, volunteers, and musicians to rise to this increased activity.
Beyond Austin
Although Swan Songs started in Austin, “The Live Music Capital of the World”, it became apparent over time and through conversations with others around the country that the value of music at the end of life is universal.
Recognizing that we had successfully created the process and infrastructure to bring this mission to life, founder and CEO Christine Albert and the Austin board of directors committed to the development of a model for other communities to establish an independent 501(c)(3) Swan Songs organization (Affiliate) or for an existing nonprofit to license the program (Program Provider).
Swan Songs in Austin looks forward to building more effective tools, training, procedures, and channels of communication with our current sister cities and others as they come on board.
